Remember the Truth by Yoruko Remember the Truth by Yoruko
As the day comes
when you curse your leaders
for this self induced chaos

remember the truth.

---

Oh hey Anvilhead. You made a comeback!
Yep, most of my art-time during these past few days... or past week actually, has gone into this monster. I just can't leave the monster-dragon-apocalypse theme alone, now can I? 8)

I tried to balance the foreground and background elements a bit better here but I'm not completely satisfied with the construction elements... Hm. On the other hand, I'm rather happy with the molten metal. Came out better than what I had in the original sketch.

50% of the original working size. Large picture still, I suggest you download!
Made with Open Canvas 1.1 and Photoshop CS3
All textures used were created by me beforehand

First of all this is a really well done piece. The theme can really be easily identified by just looking at the piece, which is always a good sign.

What really irks me is the moon. First of all it seems unnaturally large in the background. I don't really think the moon adds a great deal to the overall composition, but it does tie in to the theme of an apocalyptic scene. Another thing that bugs me with the moon is the fact that it's just an image of the moon instead of it being painted like the rest of the image. Having photos mixed in with painted objects and making it work is tricky at best, and I believe the moon would look much better painted like the rest of the piece.

Given the apparent intensity of the light coming from the lava beneath the dragon, I would have expected the light source to be more from beneath the dragon rather than the light source apparently coming from a different direction. In addition given how metallic the dragon is, I would also have expected the light hitting the dragon to have more colour instead of a seemingly desaturated colour, which makes objects seem more unnatural, so fixing that would make the piece pop just that little more. There are some places that turned out very well though in terms of lighting, so it's not all bad!

I rather like the black smog for the dragon's wings, it works out very well and suits him. ;) Overall this is a good piece.

First and foremost, its gotta be said that your style and artwork has always amazed me. The way you exaggerate things, like the molten drool, really make certian aspects of your works stand out from the rest.
Along with that, you also subtly add details such as the smog wings to surprise viewers, and I love that.

As for the negatives, I agree mostly with =traediras. The moon could use just a tad bit more blending with the rest of the painted background. Maybe some smoggy clouds?
Same with the lighting as well, some orange glow on his underside might help.
The end section of the creature's tail seems to be a bit awkwardly stiff as well.
The only things that seriously bothers me is the 'spines' with the glowing bits on them. The one closest to the front arm goes behind the one closer to the back leg, which doesn't really make much sense to me.

But this is just so amazing. Great job man. <3

Well done!
The FG is just great!!

I think you can have a more interesting depth by playing with perspective way more with dat lava lake!

You can play as well with the huge return of light from this lake on your stuctures in the MG :)

But yeah, in general, great work!!

I love the design for this, as if the dragon has its own element, and boy do I love mixing up elements. Metal/Lava/Smudge? It does seem like a good rememberance on a futuristic world

:/ varsinkin nykyisin. Mutta no can do.

the moon is the only thing that seems to.. take away from this images,
I reckon you could even get away with over emphasizing it and making it super red and glowy ;P
But that's just me haha
